Sufjan Stevens:

I think itโ€™s an inherent problem in any kind of public discourse. When you have celebrities talking about their failed marriages or their infidelities or their drug problems, itโ€™s just something thatโ€™s not the publicโ€™s business. I donโ€™t want to know about Christinaโ€ฆerโ€ฆwhateverโ€ฆI donโ€™t even know any of these names. I donโ€™t want to know about Britney Spearsโ€™ baby. Itโ€™s personal. Itโ€™s none of my business. Itโ€™s her family. Itโ€™s her private life. I donโ€™t want to know about Nick Lacheyโ€™s divorce with Jessica Simpson. Itโ€™s not our business. But, obviously, itโ€™s kind of a whole different conversation, because when you have a reality T.V. show about your marriage, I guess you are making it everybodyโ€™s business. And when you release a record about your faith, youโ€™re making that everyoneโ€™s business.
