  • Over at The Kindlings Muse, you can now listen to Dr. Christine Chaney, Jennie Spohr, and myself as we discuss the films of Wes Anderson with a live audience at Hale’s Brewery and Pub.Many thanks to the many people who wrote in talking about their favorite Wes Anderson movies. I was going to send Raleigh St. Claire cards to two of them, but there were so many good ones, I picked four. I meant to read from several of these during the Kindlings Muse podcast event, but we ran out of time. Anyway, I picked four responses that stuck with me, and that I’ll be thinking about when I watch these Anderson movies again. The four people getting Raleigh St. Claire cards are: Josh Wilson, Carl-Eric, Zach Malm, and Ken Priebe

  • Michael Leary at Filmwell talks about the James Bond title sequences, and which Bond is “the right Bond”?
  • Richard Brody at The New Yorker considers the Anna Karenina that forgot Tolstoy, and compares Joe Wright’s adaptation to another Anna Karenina… namely, The Deep Blue Sea by Terence Davies. [corrected]

  • I’ve changed my Twitter handle: http://twitter.com/overstweet. What took me so long to discover this option?
  • I stumbled onto this quote from Wim Wenders from several years ago, and just had to post it again:
“You have a choice of being ‘in the business’ or of making movies. If you’d rather do business, don’t hesitate. You’ll get richer, but you won’t have as much fun!”
  • Here’s the trailer for a movie I cannot wait to see: Pleased to Meet Me. It stars Aimee Mann, John Doe, Loudon Wainwright III, Joe Henry, and my dear friend Karin Bergquist.
  • What would it be like to sit down and talk with Scott Derrickson, director of Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose, for an hour? My sister-by-choice Sara Zarr found out. Listen to her podcast, This Creative Life, to learn from Derrickson’s adventures in filmmaking.
  • The Criterion Collection is releasing a movie that I included in the top five of my Favorite Films of 2011 list.
