Managing Editor of Response:

Full-time, exempt staff position in University Communications. Responsibilities include: Manage the production of SPU’s award-winning institutional magazine, Response; working with the senior editor, help to propose both content and policy for the print and online editions of the magazine to the Response Editorial Board; oversee the production schedule, writing, editing, photography assignments, proofing, corrections, and printing and mailing arrangements for the print magazine; coordinate with the University Communications Web Team to help produce the dynamic content of the online edition of the magazine; and participate in the creation and implementation of a business plan for the growth of new audiences for Response and SPU. Required qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field; five years of progressively responsible experience as a magazine and/or publications editor; demonstrated professional experience and skill in magazine/feature writing; demonstrated content-editing and copy-editing skills; demonstrated experience in print publication production management; demonstrated experience in online publication writing, editing, and/or development; demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to create effective partnerships/collaborations within the department and across the University; an affinity for accuracy and detail; an even temperament; effective resource management skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel; and a commitment to SPU’s vision and the ability to express it creatively through a print and online magazine. Preferred qualifications include: Knowledge of design, printing, photography, and illustration. Position will remain open until filled. Salary: DOE.
